Linear stability of the steady flow past rectangular cylinders

چکیده
The primary instability of the flow past rectangular cylinders is studied to comprehensively describe influence aspect ratio $AR$ and rounding leading- and/or trailing-edge corners. Aspect ratios ranging between $0.25$ $30$ are considered. We show that critical Reynolds number ( $\textit {Re}_c$ ) corresponding increases with ratio, starting from {Re}_c \approx 34.8$ for $AR=0.25$ a value 140$ $AR = 30$ . unstable mode its dependence on described. find positioning small circular cylinder in modifies way strongly depending ratio. rounded corners affect depends both curvature radius. For , leading-edge has always stabilising effect, whereas destabilising, although large radii only. intermediate instead, effect limited only, while \geqslant 5$ it destabilising effect. In contrast, 2$ consistently Interestingly, when all rounded, becomes more stable, at ratios. An explanation provided.

Applicability of URANS and DES Simulations of Flow Past Rectangular Cylinders and Bridge Sections
This paper discusses the results of computational fluid dynamics simulations carried out for rectangular cylinders with various side ratios of interest for many civil engineering structures. A bridge deck of common cross-section geometry was also considered. Unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (URANS) equations were solved in conjunction with either an eddy viscosity or a linearized explic...

The flow interception efficiency, which provides a measure of the fraction of streamlines that intercept a porous collector, is an important parameter in applications such as particle capture, filtration, and sedimentation. In this work, flow permeation through a porous circular cylinder located symmetrically between two impermeable parallel plates is investigated numerically under different fl...
متن کاملFlow past two tandem circular cylinders using Spectral element method
In this paper, flow past around two circular cylinders which are tandem arranged at a Reynolds number of 200 is numerically investigated by spectral element method. To validate the numerical method for incompressible Navier–Stokes equations, the benchmark problem of flow over a single circular cylinder is employed, with the numerical results in a good agreement with the available literatures. T...
